Crystal Pool closure needs

Dear Mayor and Council

I am writing to you regarding the Crystal Pool Replacement Project. I understand you are looking for pool space for those swimmers who will be displaced should you choose the north option and close the facility for several years. I am involved with several clubs and at the pool often and would like to help.

I have compiled a list of current public and organized swims and their lane requirements. I hope you find this helpful. I have also provided you with a list of pools in the CRD and their phone numbers. I had previously contacted these facilities for a club I coach and was told there was no room. I am hoping however that in your role as Mayor and Council for the City of Victoria you will have more influence and be able to find us all space. As you will see from the data there are several people who rely on the facility for their health and wellbeing, including children, our elders and people with disabilities. I should also note, that the list below is not comprehensive and does not include over 300 children and comparable amount of adults who are on a waitlists.

Public Requirements

  • Public lane swim of 2 x 25m should be available at all times
  • Family swims are every weekday plus on weekends
  • Youth Fun swims are weekend afternoons
  • Quiet swims are weekday afternoons
